Abstract

The bounded entity in this case study is the educational team (parent, teacher, administrator and paraprofessional) surrounding a student with Emotional Disturbance. Data analysis involveding repeated coding of narratives through open-ended interviews of team members reveals an individual and cultural wounding of the student and parent.

Laura Franklin, Wayne State College

Laura Franklin, Ed.D, is Associate Professor in the College of Education and Counseling at Wayne State College. Her research focuses on construction of teacher identities when positioned within marginalized populations of students. She also studies insider/outsider status in overlapping realms of identity and problematizing questions of who can (and should) speak for populations of individuals who may not, or cannot, speak for themselves. Her work with narrative inquiry and autoethnography adds a reflexive component to understand her own identity in relation to her role in disrupting narratives of (dis)ability.
